Education and human rights advocate Morgane Oger submitted her Nomination papers for Trustee in the 2018 Vancouver School Board election.

“Vancouver parents have been asking me to step forward as an independent candidate in this election for some time,” said Oger. “As the mom of two children in our public school system, I commit to making sure more of our K12 education funding is spent in the classroom, where it is meant to go.”

As Chair of the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC), Oger successfully organized parents to halt the closure of 12 Vancouver schools in 2017. Raising two children downtown, Oger understands the pressures our schools face due to overcrowding, campaigning for additional school capacity as the BC NDP candidate for False Creek in the 2017 BC General election.

“If elected, I will work to cultivate a thriving relationship with parents, labour partners, communities, and students to ensure Vancouver schools remain safe and inclusive for all learners, their families, and staff. I will work to ensure that this is a school board of reconciliation,” said Oger.

Morgane Oger received a degree in mechanical engineering from UBC and has worked as a consultant in the High Tech sector. Having managed small businesses for over 20 years and sitting on a several non-profit boards, Morgane Oger recognizes the importance of keeping organizations on track and on budget.

Oger is the founder of Morgane Oger Foundation, which prides itself on its non-partisan approach to advocating for human rights in Canada and was hosted on Parliament Hill earlier this year by all three federal parties at a reception celebrating its successes.

“There is no place in Vancouver schools for exclusion. Every student deserves to reach their full potential free from bullying, harassment, or intimidation,” said Morgane.

A widely recognized human rights advocate, Morgane Oger was awarded the Shakti Trailblazer award in 2018, the Kimberly Nixon Pride Legacy Award for Transgender Activism in 2016, and was named “National Hero” Grand Marshall for the 2016 Vancouver Pride parade.
